After years of sitting in day-long meetings listening to great speakers only to return to the same old habits, I discovered an alternative that really works. I can’t say why more PD isn’t created using this model, but I can guess it has something to do with the lack of time, money, and manpower to pull it off. There’s also the issue of willingness on the part of the employee to go the extra mile regardless of pay.
Great teachers first look at the impact they have on those around them, then at the rewards, their efforts bring. Maybe as education leaders change their focus away from the process and return it to purpose, more schools will have the means to provide effective PD.
