Recently I have learned a great deal about designing courses that are holistic. Holistic in education means an environment that promotes learning by providing the tools and removing the barriers for authentic growth of knowledge.
In a well designed class, the student is the center, is following their passion and having fun while learning, often through what might appear to be playing. Most important is that students learn and developing new knowledge independently, often guiding their own learning.
I will be working on a specific classroom design this summer and invite you to read along and give suggestions. Please take a look under the Projects tab for the post “holistic learning” to see how our school uses holistic learning philosophies to offer authentic learning in foreign language classes.
