One of the most versatile and fun tools I have used in the classroom is Voki.com. It allows users to create avatars which speak on behalf of the creator. Students (or teachers) can use them to express understanding, give instructions, or simply to spruce up a boring presentation. A Voki can be embedded into presentations or webpages. Voki.com also allows teachers to create classrooms which offer more features. There is an annual fee for the classroom version which runs on a Windows PC, but a free account can be used by each student by creating accounts on their own. Take a look at this site for a quick demo of how Voki’s might be used in your classroom. Real Learning with Voki’s.
